Soft steps swiftly conveyed him along after his son as the approached the entrance to the compound. His sons rapid movement quick enough for the picking up of the pace to be merited as he'd uttered. "Dont get too far ahead Telim!" Those words followed by a awkward smile directed to those they passed he walked. Apologetic for any near misses that passed and friendly, many of those he passed people he happened to know. "The compound and the others will still be around in another two minutes!"

Telim rushed forward initially, slowed only slightly by his fathers words. "But dad!" Words he protested at even as he slowed down, turning as he added. "There wont be as many cookies in two minutes!"

"The Matriarch will make more if that ends up being the case, Telim." He'd chuckled as he'd followed along behind them, reached up and ruffled their hair. "Comon, lets get ourselves situated." The Older Romulan placing a gentle hand on his sons back as they continued to move and he added. "Then we'll get cookies, sound good?"

Vara'ls words, nodded at by Telim, served as a perfect indication of where he was to another set of ears. To ones that belonged to his son. His eldest son, one who waited for them as they approached the sleek black stone of one of the compounds guest houses. Waited for them to approach close enough and then, as his father passed him by, stepped out and enveloped both he and his defacto-adoptive younger brother in a hug. "Hello strangers." Careful as he did so to make noise as he moved, an open approach to one he happened to know was wired for battle.

"Big broo!" Telims response a joyously exclaimed pair of words followed by a hug of his own and a gasped happy observation. "But dad said you were at work!" Hug tight as he looked up at the person who'd become like the elder brother he'd always wished for.

"I might have neglected to inform him I managed to get authorsation to take my leave early this year." The chuckled response had come then as he'd ruffled his brother's hair and looked to his father. "Shall we talk inside?" His fathers nod smiled at as the quietly talking trio pushed through the guest house door and into the building.

And, a bit out of the way, and very confused-looking, was Tavek! In all the chaos around, he’d kind of been separated from Annarok. And, since he hadn’t ever even been on Mol’Rihan before, much less the Hara compound, he really had no clue where the heck he was. He was dressed somewhat nicer (and less slutty) than how he usually did, with regular black jeans and a purple tank top, matching his hair. Which of course showed off the one remaining scar from his Resistance era, but he didn’t mind showing it, especially outside of the whole Federation stuff.

It didn't take long before their appearance was spotted. Spotted and relayed to others, their words overheard by a certain young Romulan and his father. Telim having raced out as he reacted to the revelation of a visitor to meet, his every step shadowed by his elder brother and followed close behind by his father Vara'l. The young Romulan, as swift steps conveyed him into view of the new arrival swift as he moved and yelled. "Hellloo!" A greeting that happened to understandably grow in value as he rapidly closed the distance between him and the tall person and screeched to a cookie fuelled halt. "Hello are you Father's cousins family person and friend?" The kid had then asked as the CTO approached more slowly. "I'm Telim, my dads coming, I'm just quicker than he is." The kid then happened as he practically bounced in place a bit. "Heya, its nice to meetchya, what's your name?"

Not as fast as his son, partly as he happened to prefer to not risk a trip and a fall on rocky ground, Vara'l waved as he approached the stranger and Telim. The Romulan only speaking once he reckoned he was close enough. "Hello!" His initial greeting tinged with a slightly apologetic tone as it was uttered, conscious he had no idea how this person happened to be with suddenly appearing kids. "I see you've met Telim already, welcome!"

Tavek, having seen Telim rapidly approaching him from quite a far ways off, wasn’t exactly surprised by the sudden greeting- he’d had time to not flinch or act weird. Tavek was still a teeny tiny bit apprehensive about being here, honestly. He had made many very stupid decisions in these last few months, and he was wondering if this, too, was a stupid decision. It was already stupid to slip up and accidentally reveal his Resistance era to a random (pretty) Cardassian/Romulan in the club, it would be extremely stupid to do so -in Romulan space, surrounded by Romulans he didn’t know (even if this House was cool)-. So, he was a bit apprehensive. He just hoped to make a good impression. “Oh, hello, Telim. Yes, I’m here with Annarok, if that’s who you’re referring to. You can call me Haekis.” He reached into his pocket, quickly grabbing a small rock he had brought back from his hike- black, with a white stripe of some mineral. “I recently went hiking, so I thought I’d bring back an interesting rock for you.”

Telim happily smiled at Tavek as the other proceeded to respond to him and paused as they did. Spoke like how he sometimes did when he happened to be a bit apprehensive but in that adulty why he sometimes noticed people do. The introduction met with a happy smile as the kid bounced up and down a bit, happy and cookie fuelled. "Hello, It's really nice to meet you Haekis!" Telim declared before he gasped at the reveal of the stone and reached out to accept it. "Ohhh!" He gasped before he bounced up and down a bit and added. "It looks so coool!" Ready to accept the stone as the thought struck him and he proceeded to ask. "Did youuu enjoy the hiking, where did you gooo?"

This kid of Vara’l’s certainly did have a lot of energy, Tavek thought. Tavek had met children before, of course, but it was not usually a very happy occasion when he did so. In his earlier days, he had helped rescue plenty of them (mostly Reman children, and children of enemies of the Tal Shiar) from the clutches of the Free State, but those children were certainly not happy and brimming with energy when he had known them. And he was not exactly a comforting or very kid-friendly figure then either, covered in scars of melted and fused-together plastic and usually holding some kind of weapon or scary-looking tool. Maybe Telim was a sign of happier times, where children could in fact be happy and energetic like that. Tavek hoped so. “It’s nice to meet you too. And yes, I did enjoy the hiking- I went to the Atlai River here on Mol’Rihan. It was beautiful, honestly. Though, I’m glad my skin isn’t real, since there were plenty of bugs trying to bite me!” He joked. It was quite obvious he was an android- all his joints had seams in the skin to allow for movement, so each joint looked segmented. He nodded to Vara’l when he noticed him approaching- he’d seen the man before but never actually spoken to him. “Jolan tru, it seems odd to call you Commander when we’re not even on 777, so should I just call you Vara’l?”

Telim Tr'Hara | CIV BOT 07-Jul-25 12:47 AM
Telim watched the Android with eyes brimming with energy that concealed a careful if youthful mind. A mind that noted all that it saw and pieced things together. Noted the segmented joints and realized he was in the presence of a android. Not something he was concerned about that, he was safe here and Annarock had vouched for them. Even if he'd happened to have not done so, they were one the borders of the Hara compound. He also happened to be with his father. "Those bugs are really annoying sometimes thooo its always fun to go on walks despite them!" The kid observed before he added. "I bet its really nice not having to worry about the bugs though!" He then slipped closer to his dad, stone clutched in his grasp as he hugged his father and showed them the stone. "It looks so coool!" Did so and then looked to Tavek. "Thank you!"

Steel grey hued eyes watched the conversation that went on. Watched silently, a former tactical drones mind something that always worked in some ways, considered everything it observed. The fact that the newcomer happened to be a android noted, Haekis's conversation with Telim and how he handled it appreciated as he smiled. "Jolan tru, aye it does and thats fine yes, Vara'l works." The Romulan calm as he nodded off to the nearby tall but clearly younger Romulan and the compound beyond that. "My eldest son's here along with others, we'd been enjoying some baked goods, shall we walk and talk?" Vara'l asked then. That asked question followed by a moments pause before he continued on and added. "I imagine there'll still be cookies and the like left by the time we get there." The comment calm as he then looked to his son and the rock that was shown and the smile he'd smiled grew far warmer as he reacted to them. "It does look rather good aye, wanna go show Tha'ron?" As he nodded to Telims adoptive elder brother. "I'm sure he'll love to see it too."

Though, honestly, Tavek- no, Haekis, he wasn’t around strictly Federation company after all and Tavek was the name he used for matters not involving Romulan things, and Haekis was only here because he was involved in Romulan things (the Resistance), Haekis was probably one of the best androids you could be around. He was nonviolent when not on the wrong side of a disruptor, but he was quick to consider others worthy of protection if he knew they were safe to be around- so if anyone did try something unsavory against Vara’l or Telim or anyone here, they’d have to answer to a 6’0 android with plenty of experience in using anything and everything around him to his advantage. “Hah, they did get all in my eyes, though. Quite annoying, honestly.” He nodded, smiling gently when Telim thanked him. “You’re welcome, I don’t like going places without bringing gifts, but I couldn’t exactly bring much with me.” He turned to Vara’l now, nodding when he pointed out the other Romulan, his son. He honestly didn’t know much about Vara’l or the Hara house, so he wasn’t exactly sure on exactly how many people were even here, let alone who was who. He wasn’t used to a House big enough to have a -compound-. His House had exactly two people in it besides him, one was on Vulcan and the other was currently on a deep space mission in the Delta Quadrant. “Of course, we can walk and talk. Even if everything is gone before I finally get there, I wouldn’t mind. After all, eating is optional for me.” He said with a little shrug.

Telim grimaced at the revelation about bugs getting eyes a softly commented. "Yuck, that does sound annoying!" The kid had observed before he'd raced off and left his father and them to the conversation, gone off and showed off the stone to his brother. He remained over there as the two conversed, contended to chat to his brother for a time while Vara'l and mr Haekis talked some more. Telim really wanted time to enjoy his adoptive elder brother's company and grabbed at a opportunity for more of that time as they chatted!

"I suspect there'll still be stuff there." Vara'l responded as he smiled and gestured toward the compound then started to move. "My mother, the house Matriarch, is the sort of person to ensure that." The comment chuckled at by him as he then added. "And you're a guest, a new visitor to the compound, we Hara pride ourselves our hospitality." The unspoken addition to that something he left un-uttered. A decision he was for now contented about, he reckoned. He honestly suspected that Haekis could determine who could have expected a different sort of welcome at the compound. They happened to know Annarock after all and if they knew him, then he reckoned there was a good chance he happened to know more about the Hara's more discrete dissident actions than he might have happened to. "I suspect you'll be finding yourself offered a cup of tea at the very least, within the coming hour."

“I suppose you’re right. I’m not very used to a House large enough to need a compound, though. Mine, if you can even call it that at this point, has only two other people besides me, and only my creator has a permanent address.” After all, his sort-of sister, his creator’s daughter (as far as he knew, she was actually his creator’s sister but the records had been changed long before he was created), had no need for an address as an anesthesiologist currently off in deep space. It was true, though, that Haekis reasoned that, if Annarok saw it fit to come here, and bring him, that the Haras would certainly be quite unwelcoming to anyone with bad intentions. Haekis knew Annarok quite well after spending nearly seven years with the man, he knew he had good judgment. He had an inkling that the Haras were more along the lines of the correct side of the fight against the Tal Shiar than the other way around, though he was very much not stupid enough to bring up the subject now. He didn’t know how much Annarok had told Vara’l about anything, and how much Vara’l had gleaned on his own. “I’m certainly alright with a cup of tea. Maybe the only thing Vulcan about me is the fact I like tea- my creator assimilated into Vulcan society long ago and built me with the expectation that I would too. It didn’t turn out like that, though!” He laughed. He had spent far, far too long in Romulan space for that.

He smiled again then, as Tavek responded as they did. Their words listened to with care as the other talked about their past, respected and mentally filed away. Something he fully intended to ensure he remembered. Calm as he continued on to walk and spoke. "Even a house down to a singular member is still a house." Vara'l responded then before those steel grey hues fixed upon Haekis again. "Part of the reason we have it is if anything is for get togethers such as this, the house has other holdings elsewhere." Vara'l careful to not sound like he'd just indulged in a bit of boasting then, having just attempted to outline a bit more about the house Hara. "There's a good few house members present at the moment, though some are on combat deployments with the Republic Navy so cannot attend." When the other indicated that a cup of tea would be alright, Vara'ls smile warmed further. "Brilliant and, you may be familiar with some of the blends of tea we have then, my mother the Matriarch acquired a few Vulcan blends recently." He continued before, as they grew closer to his adoptive son and he nodded to one of the larger buildings in the compound. "This way." And continued to move.

“It makes sense that such a large House would spread out rather than all sticking together in one place.” He said, as he didn’t think what Vara’l said was boasting. Haekis was not a boastful type, not for anything he’d done in his life. He was good at what he did, but he’d rather his actions show that than just his empty words. And he certainly never boasted about his past. He had done what was necessary, and that was all. There wasn’t much else to say about it. “Ah, the Republic Navy… I had considered coming to Mol’Rihan and finding a join, I’d spent my whole life to that point in Romulan space, and no doubt Annarok would’ve found a way to get me in.. at that point I’d gone back to Vulcan with my creator, and I was not liking it there. But ultimately, Starfleet was closer and I wanted off as fast as possible. Maybe it’s just fate that I was put on a posting just a day trip away from Mol’Rihan.” He laughed. “If it’s tea, I will drink it. I’m definitely not picky.” He said with a bit of a shrug. He wasn’t any kind of snob about it.

"Aye, was especially needed in earlier times." Vara'l responded as they continued to move. "Though we maintained a compound like this for House meets, that old one's no longer used though." The reason for that not expanded upon as he continued to walk with them, guided them through the compounds perimeter and inside. Vara'l calm as he moved, nodded to some of those they met and smiled at his sons as the two continued to talk to each other. A smile directed to them both before he looked to Haekis once more. "I imagine that, if you'd ended up on Mol'Rihan, you'd have been welcomed in the fleet." Vara'l responded initially as he then looked thoughtfully onwards. "Perhaps it was... and I can understand that." He then trailled off for a moment as he smiled. "Transferred from the Republic Navy to Starfleet myself, this postings proximity to home admittedly happened to be quite pleasant." Swift as he walked with them down a packed stone footpath bordered by flowers, headed toward a pair of dark orange-brown wooden doors. "Perfect, it'll certainly be tea." The Romulan responded as he smiled slightly "Here we are, just a moment." His voice clear as he nodded to the door and then turned to his sons and raised his hands and signed. "Comon you two!" In Romulan Sign language, waiting before they nodded their acknowledgment before he opened the door and stepped inside. Did so and held the door for the other as he smiled to them. "Already spotted a good few cups of tea and the like out, cakes too."

“For a time, on my first posting, I wanted to do the opposite of what you did and find a way to somehow transfer to the Republic Navy. I joined Starfleet thinking it’d be a bit different than how it actually is, and my expectations were higher than they should’ve been. Being in a whole different corner of the galaxy as a bottom of the barrel Ensign with no friends was.. certainly a time. At least in the Navy, I’d have a chance of linking back up with the people I knew before. But, in the end, I stuck it out, and I guess I’m sort of glad I did. 777 is much better than where I was at previously.” He explained with a little shrug. While by no means did Haekis dislike Starfleet, he had come into it with different expectations that the organization hadn’t lived, and shouldn’t have, lived up to. It was on him for thinking Starfleet would be like a really big cell instead of something very, very different. Its definition of camaraderie and his definition of camaraderie were not the same thing. But, he knew that Starfleet was honestly the best he was going to get, and so he stuck with it. He liked his work, he liked his posting, and so he stuck around. Plus, he had spent six years in it already, might as well keep going. He waved to the two people Vara’l had signed to before stepping inside after him. “I do love a good cake.. the bakeries in San Francisco where I went to the Academy were very good.. though the ones on 777 are more than acceptable too. But honestly, I will try anything at least once, so don’t trust my tastes. I drank straight olive oil once in the Academy to freak out someone who hadn’t realized I was an android.” He said with another shrug. Since he didn’t process anything anyways, it all had to be emptied out through a port in his side after a few hours anyhow, he could really consume whatever the heck he wanted to so long as it wasn’t corrosive or anything.

"I suppose I can understand that, Starfleet does have its..." He trailed off then as his jaw worked a bit, the working twitch of his jaw something interrupted occasionally by nodded greetings aimed at passing house members. House members he was gratified to see didn't seem too malicious toward the android as they passed, conscious somewhat of other Romulans views toward Androids as Vara'l started to respond once more. "Starfleet does have its differences compared to the Republic navy and...the like." The Romulans grey steel-hued eyes calmly fixed upon Tavek as he continued. "Though I was admittedly a Ensign with a different fleet." The exact nature of that fleet not mentioned even though he reckoned any Reman's or others in earshot happened to already know. "The cake's rather good, there's a variety of types I've seen." Vara'l observed conversationally as he gestured toward the nearest cake filled table. "Some of them are.. Terran sorts I believe?" He added then as he looked confused at the presence of what unknowing to him happened to be a black forest gateau. Did so before he turned to the other at the revelation of their Academy prank and actually chuckled. "That's is actually quite the prank." He'd observed then, impressed.

It was at this point that the doors smoothly opened once more and admitted the two people who'd waved back at Tavek. Those two people being Vara'ls sons, Tha'ron carrying Telim as he entered and continued to talk with them quietly. Eyes bright, amused and happy for his brother as Telim concluded his lengthy and gushed observations of the gift the newcomer had given him. Telim gently placed down on his feet as the table with cake was pointed out, Tha'ron smoothed out his rumbled Republic navy uniform a moment. Then, he started over to the duo and bowed slightly to Tavek once close enough. "Jolan tru." Then glanced to his father and softly added. "Told little brother he could go try some Gateau if he wanted, one slice as you'd restricted him to." Before he turned back to Tavek and proceeded to say. Haekis could infer what Vara’l meant by that. A different fleet could only mean one thing. But… it wasn’t like he could get into a fight with anyone here. Plus, there were Remans scattered about the complex who all seemed fine, and he knew Annarok wouldn’t have brought him to meet someone who still harbored unsavory sympathies. Was it a tiny bit sus? Yes. Was anything in Romulan space not a tiny bit sus at times? Also yes, and he knew it. “Ah, it was certainly a fun time. The Academy was alright.. it might have been one of the better ways to adjust to Federation space, honestly.” He gave a small head bow to the newcomer. He could see the family resemblance between him and Vara’l, and judging by how he was with Telim, he had to wonder if this was one of Vara’l’s older sons? “Oh, hello. I’m Haekis tr’Lleihn, I’m with Annarok. Are you one of Vara’l’s sons, by any chance?” (edited)

Steel grey hues continued to watch the other, that which was haunted by the past he'd lived concealed behind those impassive hues. Eyes that remained fixed upon the other, Vara'l knowing full well some of what might have passed through a mind at those words. Knew full well but still allowed that to pass uncommented upon. While Annarock knew this person, to him they were still a stranger. Such secrets were not for the ears of a stranger. Such pain was not something he'd ever have shared near his sons. "I'm happy to hear it, didn't go to it myself but heard good things about it." The Romulan had responded before he'd idly added. "Though I suspect some of those stories may be slightly dated as well, they came from a El-Aurian."

Paused as he tapped his uniform slightly. "Here on shore leave, off of a combat patrol that just ended." He then, as he chuckled slightly, reached up one handed and disturbed his head wrap. Did so as he revealed a familiar coloured lock of almost ginger-brown Hara hair. A similar colour to Vara'ls. Evidence alongside steel hued eyes of his parentage. Annarok stepped into the room in his off-duty wear—simple, functional, and a deliberate shift from his usual sharp uniform or command blacks. His posture remained straight, his movements calculated, but the edge had softened just enough to be noticed. Something in his expression hinted at a recent ambush—offscreen, brief, and unmistakably affectionate. He adjusted his collar with the faintest smirk, as if recovering from a hit he'd seen coming too late to avoid—but hadn’t really minded. * “Hello, everyone,” *he said, voice crisp but touched with a rare lightness. Whatever tackle-hug that Telim gave had caught him in the corridor hadn’t just knocked him off-balance—it had disarmed him in all the right ways. A good welcome to the estate.

If Tavek wasn’t mistaken.. he possibly knew who that El-Aurian might be. He knew from being chronically online on the chatroom that there was a guy with an extensive old tech collection who spoke about it like he had been there when it was in use. An old tech collection that he (and his dear new friend Silver) were very jealous of, actually. Seriously, there were things in there that were older than the Federation and that guy wasn’t even fazed by it?? Tavek couldn’t compute that. “Ah.. would that El-Aurian happen to be the guy who posts on the chatroom about old tech like they were personally around when it was new? Because I swear they have to be El-Aurian at this point, there’s no other possible way they have so much pre-Federation stuff.” “I’m also on shore leave, though thankfully I’ve never seen real combat, at least in Starfleet. I’m happy just being a roboticist. I do hope you’re enjoying your shore leave though, and it’s good to meet you too.” Then, thank the stars above him, he spotted Annarok! Oh, he was saved from all this awkwardness! He was so happy to see Annarok that he totally forgot about the very stupid thing he’d just inadvertently said! So, with very obviously earnest excitement and relief, he waved to Annarok. “Oh, Annarok, I was wondering where you went! I hadn’t seen you for a while, for a hot second I thought you’d left me!” He said with a little laugh.

Annarok accepted the slice with an arched brow and the smallest huff of amusement through his nose. He glanced down at it, then back at Telim, eyes narrowing just slightly—not in irritation, but in mock suspicion, like he was considering whether Telim had just pulled something clever."You tackle me, disappear, and come back with cake,”he said, tone dry but clearly fond. *“You’re lucky I like cake.” *He took a bite without ceremony, nodding once—approving, clearly, but not about to gush. He glanced over at Tavek, already settling into the rhythm of the room, the conversation.“I didn’t leave. Telim made sure of that,” he added wryly, gesturing vaguely with the fork as if that explained everything, which, to Annarok, it did. Another glance toward Telim, this time more direct. The gratitude was quieter now, settled beneath everything else "“Thanks. This was a good welcome back.”

Vara'l responded then before he then glanced to Tha'ron then back to Haekis as they said what they said. Steel grey hued eyes not ones that betrayed anything as his eyes had then flicked about him as a mind still somewhat wired like that of a tactical drones assessed things. Assessed just how many people might have overheard the statement the android had just issued. *Did so as he then looked back to Haekis smoothly and smiled, contented to let the duo speak as steel grey eyes located Elohae amongst the crowd. Located them and quietly palmed his PADD and fired off a message to Elohae on the chatroom he was still connected to. Fired that off then looked to Annarock and smiled more widely as he spotted the fact Telim happened to be with them also. * "Jolan tru cousin, I hope Telim's tackle didn't cause you too many issues.."

"Its not that bad, though there are times when I think I'd prefer a exchange posting with Starfleet." Tha'ron had responded at the shore leave comment before, with his interest peaked, he added. "That's quite the job, roboticist and, thank you, I am enjoying my Shore leave at present aye." Looked to Vara'l and then glanced to Telim then as he considered things and added. "Happy to have gotten leave early to make it here, if that hadn't gotten green lit I'm afraid I'd have missed this entirely."

“I’m a bit jealous of his collection, honestly, and I’m pretty sure that plenty of my fellow engineers would say the same.* Haekis was still unaware that he’d said anything wrong (being in a rather overstimulating environment with tons of people was wearing on him, and it was starting to become rather visible at this point, something he’d been trying to power through for the sake of being polite around a bunch of new people). Honestly, he was still trying to figure out how many away missions he’d seen Vara’l at on his time at 777 so far. He didn’t see his fellow officers very often besides when he went out on the Promenade and such, he mainly confined himself to the repairs bay.* “Oh, Starfleet’s definitely an alright place to be. It’s probably more fun if you’re not a nervous wreck who can’t socialize for the life of him like me, hah. Maybe it’s for the best that I basically live in the repairs bay, I’m an embarrassment. I only really work on other androids, it’s a rarity I get sent out to fix anything else on the station. But, I do love my job though. Being an android who’s had to fix himself basically his entire life, I thought it would be nice to actually learn robotics and help other people instead.” At least Haekis had that going for him in terms of reasons that he could not be Tal Shiar- they were known for hating androids, he would’ve been found out before he even got the chance to join. Plus, even if he was a spy, the fact that he was in a job that confined him to the repairs bay, far away from any useful information, would mean he would be a very shitty and useless spy, and an utter waste of resources. Plus if anyone went through his memory for any reason, he’d be found out instantly. Anyone who thought mildly hard enough for a minute would realize that Haekis would be the shittiest Tal Shiar operative known to mankind.

"I can imagine." The Romulan responded as grey hued eyes watched the android carefully and closely. Watched them carefully as he proceeded to say. "Though I'm reasonably sure that he's actually not really realized that there's anything particularly special about his collection." His observation followed by another. "They're just things that hold memories for him and other stuff he collected." When Haekis then turned his focus to Tha'ron, Vara'l took the opportunity that presented and really looked at them. Really looked at them and then proceeded to look to Telim and engaged in a signed conversation with them for a few moments.

Vara'ls eldest son listened silently as Haekis responded, a slight grimace of disagreement all that initially met their declaration of what they happened to be. Tha'ron pretty sure that an embarrassment wouldn't have managed to make it in Starfleet and ended up working on other androids, role that happened to be quite important. At least one that happened to seem important to Tha'ron considering Haekis was helping ensure his fellows were maintained, we healthy. "I don't believe you, when you say you're an embarrassment I mean." The Romulan responded then before he continued on to say. "And you're doing a reasonably good job of socializing now though." He then glanced to Vara'l and his brother. "I believe my father's about to make a proposal."

Vara'l nodded then as he looked to his son and then back to Haekis. "I do indeed." He confirmed before he added. "I was going to propose that we take this conversation to more quieter environs." Calm as he watched them carefully then gestured to his surroundings then observed. "This is, after all, quite the strain on the senses."

“I suppose that’s understandable. I’m a bit sentimental too, a bit odd considering I can remember things in perfect clarity since, well, I’ve got a computer instead of a brain, but.. I keep stuff from my past too. Well, not much, I’ve not been able to keep too many things, but considering I’ll live a long time, I have a while to collect.” He said with a little shrug. He could tell the vibes were becoming a little off, but it was obvious that he had no idea why. Haekis was not used to anything covert at all, had never had experience in doing anything of the sort. Everything he’d done in the Resistance was quite straightforward as a shock trooper, and then with Annarok, he’d not met the enemy face-to-face very much at all. Picking up subtle things in conversations was not his forte, and it was obvious. It was another reason that he probably did not have ill intent, Haekis could not converse to save his life, he was far from having a silver tongue. “Well, I suppose you’re right. My work speaks for me better than I ever could, but unless you’re into robotics, I doubt most people take an interest in it. Not to sound like my work’s better than anyone else’s in my division, though, it’s just a bit of a rare field within Engineering itself.” Yeah, Haekis’ stupid ass was struggling. He usually didn’t have two brain cells to rub together at any given time, and this was no exception. Such was the problem when you were a prototype model made by one guy with plenty of intrinsic flaws specific to your construction and AI. “Oh.. sure! I’m fine with that.. having heightened senses that aren’t easily switched off or turned down isn’t very fun in situations like this. It’s an easy way to overheat if you’ve got a faulty cooling system like I do.”

"In all honesty, dont find that that odd, half suspect that sentimentality is actually...somewhat helped along by memory of what things were like." The Romulan responded as he considered their comment and looked at his metal ribbed hand briefly, mused over memory and a past that he'd not have ever elected to regale this person with. He might be in Starfleet but.. he also happened to be a Romulan. "Can't say I keep many things from my past though myself, just have some things from important events of Tha'ron and Telim's and the like."

"I suspect that more people than you might initially guess may take a interest in such things, should they become aware of it." Th'aron mused as he watched the other, noted some signs he'd spotted in Telim and for that matter in his father before. Noted them and guessed at what his father likely would be suggesting once he provided the opening he intended to provide. One he provided before, when the other said what they said, he'd smiled slightly. "I believe you are amongst company who can certainly sympathise with that, at least when it comes to audio stimuli in these sorts of situations." The comment not expanded upon as he glanced to his dad and then to Telim before he returned his gaze to Haekis.

"Aye, though don't have cooling systems to deal with though Tha'ron, I must point out." The Older Romulan had then responded at his eldest sons interjection before he'd gestured off to a side door. "If you'll all follow me, I know a quieter more private room where we can talk with.." He chuckled then. "Less people around." Moving as he finished speaking as he started to lead the way out of the noisy environment to somewhere that happened to be well, quieter.

“I’m the same way. As in, the things I keep are more to do with.. other people, I suppose, rather than myself. I guess being aware I’ll eventually outlive everyone I know who’s not an android, makes me want to keep things about them. Wow, that was probably way too existential for this conversation, I’m sorry.” He said, a tad bit embarrassed. He said things way too easily, it seemed. Haekis’ skills did not lie in words. In a situation like this, devoid of action, where his skills really did show themselves, he was about useless. It was maybe why he did his absolute best repair work when his “patients” were inactive, dead to the world. Or just not -alive- in the first place, if he was working with machinery that wasn’t androids. “I hope you’re right, or else I’ve accidentally bored everyone I’ve ever talked to!” He joked, in his own way to sort of ease the tension he could vaguely feel around this situation. He was trying his best, that much was obvious, but Haekis’ best when it came to conversations was woefully subpar compared to a normal Romulan’s, considering he had never had to deal with much of the subterfuge and subtle goings-on that often came with growing up in a proper Romulan House instead of basically spawning into existence on a Resistance ship full of mostly Remans like he had. “Well, at least it’s not just me being a bother, I’d hate to impose if it wasn’t beneficial to anyone else. Though you’re right that you both, luckily, don’t have to deal with the possibility of quite literally cooking yourself to the point of damage if you’re not careful. Such is the problem when you’re a prototype made by one dude.”

He said with a little shrug, following Vara’l. He couldn’t keep the feeling out of the mind that he was, here in this unfamiliar place, a bit like a lamb being unknowingly led to its slaughter, far, far too trusting. Too trusting like his friend Silver had been years ago, and that had landed her almost killed, by an organization she thought she knew very well. And here Haekis was, stupid as ever, with people he was completely and utterly in the dark about. People who could easily give him a disruptor blast to the head, chest, torso if they wanted, they could break him forever so easily. How much of an idiot could he be? He had once thought himself like a wolf or bird of prey, capable of defending himself with ease if need be, but yet now he followed Vara’l like that slated-to-die lamb anyway, knowing that he would have no real way of fighting back without consequences this time now, now he was too deeply intertwined by Starfleet, any self-defense would invoke so much paperwork and questions and his whole life would unravel right there. He felt more like Silver, that defenseless, trusting android that Starfleet had used and then discarded, than his old Resistance self. It scared him.

Telim was the first person who reacted to what Tavek initially said. Their apology met with swift movement as, as the group headed for that quiet room, Telim proceeded to break away from being near Annarock and headed toward him. Once close enough, he skidded to a halt near them and just.. stepped forward and hugged Tavek before he then looked up at them and softly declared. "That sounds saaad." Before he'd then added. "Don't have to say sorry about that.." He then broke away from the hug as he raced toward the door of the room they approached, opened it and dashed inside. Once inside he, his headphones located, yelped in pleasure and declared. "Found my headphones!" And proceeded to put them on, people happened to be noisy and he wanted to game in a corner while the adults talked.

Beaten to responding first by his son, Vara'l initially watched his son race off and after he softly chuckled at his son's declaration, then responded after a brief pause. "No need to apologise about that, I can't imagine what its like knowing that there's a very good chance bar some form of serious failure or injury that you'll outlive everyone." The Romulan mused as he walked, gestured toward the door Telim had dashed into and continued toward the now open door. "I apologise though, I don't know what to say about it." His jaw worked then, anything further left unsaid as he quashed his minds considerations of life and immortality. Silenced the part of him that reminded the rest that a fragment of him existed and would likely exist within the Borg hive mind, remembered prior to his liberation. A thought that, even as he quashed it, lanced icy discomfort along his spine. "From what I understand of the field, it is quite interesting." The Romulan mused, mostly contented to let Tha'ron and Haekis chat as he guided them all into the room.

Tha'ron initially smiled when Haekis joked before, as he then indicated he didn't want to impose, he then had swiftly started to talk. "Overheating like that certainly sounds far more unpleasant than sensory overloads and the other stuff." The comment followed by a hum as he stepped after Vara'l into the room and beelined for a replicator. "Thats the sort of thing my father and Telim have gotten before, though father's not always agreed with that assessment."

Thankfully for everyone involved, Haekis had both seen and heard Telim coming before he was right there hugging him. Haekis was jumpy at best, he needed to see someone coming before they were touching him. But still, he smiled after hearing the kid’s earnest attempt at.. comfort, perhaps? “Oh, it’s nothing you need to worry about. It’s something I’ve had to make peace with, is all. And it’s perhaps not the thing to bring up at such a nice event.” He said in a brighter tone, trying to cheer Telim up a little. His circumstance was far from unique- nearly every android in existence had to content with this fact at some point or other. Even the ones whose long lives were cut painfully short by the Federation’s synth ban had probably thought the same things he was thinking now, at some point. “Not much needs to be said. It’s something everyone of a species with a long lifespan has probably thought of at some point. Depressing, yes, but things happen whether we like them or not. I personally have several things I would love to outlive, so I’m sticking around for a good long while.” He laughed a little, tamping down his remaining anxieties as he followed them in. Surely they wouldn’t do anything with Telim around, right? Whatever he’d done to spoil the mood, Telim didn’t deserve to be a part of whatever would happen to him. Surely Vara’l wouldn’t hurt Haekis, or allow him to be hurt, around his son? “It’s definitely unpleasant, though solved easily enough by replicating a few glasses of ice water, rerouting your heat output to your extremities, and then sticking your hands in the glasses. Or, at least that’s what I do, the Starfleet uniform doesn’t leave much skin exposed besides the hands and the sleeves only roll up so far. But I have to say, sensory overload does not sound fun either.”
04:17
His eyes widened at the sheer number of pages Vara’l had mentioned reading. Haekis could read in many languages, but he didn’t really like to read anything. He just wasn’t into books very much, he read the newest research in robotics stuff, but that was it. He really loved hands-on work (unless that work would explode, he liked his hands thank you very much), which was maybe why he’d gone for Engineering over Logistics. “A thousand pages? How far did you get in before you realized you’d already read like, what, ten novels’ worth of information?“

Youthful eyes looked up into the Androids then, their words listened too and considered. "I understand, or well... I kinda think I do." The kid had said before he'd continued on and added. "I am a kid though, so maybe I don't understand all of it just... don't think its something you need to say sorry about." Telim looking up at them for a moment more before he'd then broken from the hug as he had done with a passing comment issued. "Dad always says, hurtie thoughts aint social.." As he'd then scampered off and inside the room as he had. Once in the room and safely situated with his headphones on, Telim had initialized Minecraft. Swift as he'd then selected the world he'd worked on a bit in that lounge on the ship with the name FDS Vulcan Sun and resumed work. Careful as, with the wall completed he started work on the houses garden, pausing only briefly as he'd altered his headphones setting to up the noise cancelling before he'd continued. He didn't want to be interrupted from his gaming unless it happened to be important. Social events drained him a lot and he just needed a bit of silence right now, not that he would have reacted swiftly is something important came up and his father pinged him to alert him to that.

Vara'l had watched carefully as Telim and Haekis had talked, attentive for anything that might have indicated a need to intercede. Not as he didn't like them or anything like that, just as he'd somewhat picked up on the fact that Haekis/Tavek happened to be a bit overstimulated. That and well, even though he happened to not be too well versed in certain things, Haekis had started to really come off as someone who happened to have seen combat. So well, he seemed if anything like someone who might have not ended up taking it too well if the Telim had hugged him from out of view. "I've not really experienced them in the same sort of way as my father or brother." “It’s certainly not the same, but I’ve had glitches that seriously screwed with my tactile senses a couple times before I found the bug in my code responsible for it. Made touching anything feel like bugs were crawling on me, not fun. But I’ve got the luxury of being able to turn my senses off entirely.. which I assume would help in that kind of overload. I’m glad you struggle less nowadays.” Haekis had no clue if that would help, honestly. He was a bit clueless about biology in all its forms, it was just one of the sciences he never quite understood. In his own field, there were few who could do what he did exactly like he could- being a roboticist that was also a robot gave him a unique view and thus a unique efficiency and understanding- but outside of his field, not so much. “I think that’s more pages than I’ve read in my life. Which is admittedly short, I’ll have been active for 16 years by next March, but still. I’ve been a bit interested in the Iliad, but I think I’ll look for an audiobook of it instead. I think I’d get antsy reading for so long with nothing to do with my hands. Often I’ll do my own upgrades or maintenance or build starship models and such while listening to something, it’s the only way I can sit through something.” Haekis did not have a very long attention span, to be fair. Unless he was locked in on a repair, he’d bounce between many different things. Having a lifetime spent doing things all the time left him unable to handle boredom. “Oh.. an iced tea, please. Slightly sweet.” He said, his eyes flicking to the entrance as Annarok appeared. He waved to the man, very happy that he was with the guy who brought him here in the first place. “Hi again, Annarok!”

"Thank you for your kind words, took a good bit of time to ah.. learn strategies to ensure I struggled less but, I succeeded." He'd then moved over to Telim, waited for a moment for Telim to not be engaged in something game related he needed to focus on, then signed a query as to what Telim wanted to drink. Once he'd received his answer to that, Tha'ron waved to get his fathers attention and conveyed with sign what Telim had indicated he wanted. He'd then smiled to Tavek and observed. “They do make very good noise cancellers if that’s one of the offending senses. Or, at least, my organic friends with such issues have told me that. Though, I apologize, that’s probably something you’ve heard plenty of times.” He said with a small laugh. Having little experience with organic issues, he had no idea what was commonly given to people as advice and such. His solution to every such issue he’d had was to disable the offending sense and not turn it on until he’d fixed whatever bug caused it. Or had someone else do it, if it was his sight that was the issue, it was rather hard to code while completely blind. “Oh, haha, I suppose that would be a bit shocking to hear. It’s.. less weird when you more or less don’t age unless you physically change things. Which, for the record, I’m never going to do, I’ll look this young well into my second or third century, or for however long I care to be active for. I myself am honestly more surprised when I meet androids older than me. Since.. well, it means they were either created during or survived the time the Federation tried to wipe us out. Hearing an age over fifteen sours the conversation a bit, since we androids all know the connotations for that. But, I suppose I can’t hold much of a grudge, since I was activated after it was over. And I work for them.” He said with a shrug. He did hold a grudge, but more for what they did to his fellow androids, since he himself had never experienced it. He had experienced the Tal Shiar trying to kill him instead, though to be fair, he hated the Tal Shiar for many, many more reasons than that. “Iced tea’s one of my favorite drinks. Mainly since I like tea, but having it warm is a good way to overheat. I’ve got a system, warm drinks in the morning while I’m still at a normal operating temperature, cold drinks after that.” He said plainly.

“As for bad audiobooks… I’ve heard plenty. Havrannsu translations for things can be hit or miss on how.. listen-able they are, and I listened to a lot of those early in my life since that was the main language I was using. They were either very dry, or the best I’ve listened to, no in between.”

"But I can understand the need to chose drinks that you've got to choose your drinks and when to drink them with a mind to overheating and the like." He'd smiled then. "I imagine it's good to have drinks you like for the purpose." Conscious of how he happened to struggle with this whole social lark even as he talked. He just lacked experience with conversation with Androids so felt like he happened to have flailed a bit at several points during the conversation. "I've heard the same, I admit." Vara'l had hummed then as he considered the audiobook side of things. “It was. Even though I personally am not the one owed an apology from the Federation for it.. I know some androids who are, certainly, owed one. And they never got it.” He said, a darker tone starting to creep into his voice. It was evident that he was rather.. selfless, about this topic. He was hating on behalf of someone else rather than something that was done to him. Mainly, because of what happened to Silver. What happened to his friend might have been one of the most despicable things the Federation did during that ban, and she didn’t hate them for it like he thought she should, so he quietly did it for her. He was not going to lay down and accept that shit like she did. She was bound by tighter programming, while he was not. He could hate far, far more freely than she could. “I have opinions about the way Federation and Starfleet do things, not all of them are entirely stellar, but that grudge is the biggest of them, and it’s well deserved. But, well, it’s not like being an android in Romulan space was much better for me, but I can’t blame the Federatiok for that. Plus, I was wanted dead by the ones who want all androids dead for plenty of other reasons besides just existing.”
23:45
He laughed, though it was more a nervous type of laugh than anything. By the last part, he meant the Tal Shiar- those were the guys who wanted him dead, though his reputation in certain sections of Romulan space was well earned. He certainly didn’t take pleasure in the things he’d had to do in his life for the greater good and for his own survival, but those things still did look quite scary if you were a Tal Shiar and witnessing a guy running insanely fast towards you and tanking a disruptor blast without dying like a person should and instead just getting more pissed off. The reputation had died down in the time since he’d been a shock trooper, but various little skirmishes while he was in the Ravek cell kept the legend ever so slightly alive. Six years away completely had probably dimmed it since then. “Though, apologies, that topic’s a bit dark! I promise, my life story’s not all doom and gloom! I think the future holds a lot in store for me, and for all androids.”
23:45
Haekis did have his tea preferences. Mainly, he didn’t like it extremely sweet. But, his tastes were somewhat simple- slightly sweet, maybe a squeeze of lemon or a touch of lavender syrup if he was being fancy. He was not the member of the Tavek-Silver-Shinji Engineer Trio with the insane tea tastes. That would be Shinji. “The Terran varieties are what I mostly drink, though to be honest, my tastes are simple. I know people with much more refined tastes than me. The Cadet I’m teaching some stuff to, if he was here he’d have brought a box of his own tea because he’s certain it tastes like shit if it’s replicated and he knows his tastes are too specific for someone to have his exact stuff on hand. I don’t understand him. To me it all tastes the same, though to be fair I think my creator rushed that sense when he was building my hardware. I’ve never been able to get it quite right.” He laughed, a real one this time. “Ah.. most of the ones I listened to early on were very.. engineering focused. I was in a situation where I had to learn a lot of new things in a very short window of time.. I was multitasking doing four different Engineering fields at once for a bit. It was.. certainly a time. I look back on it fondly for all the chaos of it, but it wasn’t ideal. But as for actual books, it’s not in Havrannsu so I apologize for that.. but I found a lovely one of the old Terran book, Dracula. The voice was perfect for it.. though maybe I just like vampires too much. They’re one of my favorite Terran folklore things. I can send you the link sometime, maybe.”

Vara'l nodded slightly then, when the other said what they said and proceeded to simply say. "I understand." Pained by it but sincere, he did understand at least to a degree or at least he reckoned he could. "At least, I understand as much as I can, not being a Android." The Romulan observed then before he sipped his drink slightly. When the other then proceeded to speak further, Vara'l listened in silence for a time. "I can imagine." He'd responded initially before he'd then added. "I hope you don't mind my saying, but I assume you served in the resistance." He'd then trailed off then for a moment before, when the other switched the subject to something else, Vara'l smiled slightly. "I've found that, with some tea's, things are somewhat better when not replicated.." The Older Romulan mused then before he'd added. "At least in some respects." He mused as he considered it then continued. "I don't think there's a right with taste, I think for everyone taste is an experience that they approach differently, be that due to species or anything else." Vara'l had then smiled a bit. "Apologies, I yapped on a bit there." When the other then launched into saying about the audiobooks they'd encountered, Vara'l listened intently. "No need to apologise for that, It sounds like a interesting book, If you're willing to pass along the link I'd love that." He then paused thinking for a moment before he'd then added. "Admittedly, a good few of the ones I listened to following liberation were selected for similar reasons." That admission followed by a clarification. "Though...I was in a situation where it wasn't...wise to select all I might have wanted to select, book wise." A comment he declined to further outline anything about.

“You’ve done more than the Federation’s bothered to do.” He said simply, in an attempt at showing some genuine appreciation for Vara’l’s efforts. Of course, it wasn’t the whole Federation. But.. from the people it actually mattered, the government, it was just radio silence. Was he just supposed to shut up and be grateful he wasn’t being hunted like an animal anymore? Be glad that Silver was allowed to be pulled from the ice and helped rather than tossed in a scrap pile? They never apologized. Even if it wasn’t meant for him, it sure as fuck should’ve been given to Silver, to his boss Alizati, to everyone who managed to survive the synth ban. “You’d be correct. I.. I didn’t know how much of it you knew before I even came, if Annarok told you anything or if you did any digging. But I was. I was a shock trooper for two years at the beginning of my life, fucked my arm up really badly, couldn’t fight, and then did logistics until the Republic happened. After that.. well, not much use for me anymore. My creator found me and I went back to Federation space with him. Joined Starfleet thinking it’d have similar.. teamwork and camaraderie I guess.. was sorely mistaken. It’s hard going from quite important slash needed to a bottom of the barrel Ensign. Even though I just got promoted.” He laughed. He honestly considered his time in the Resistance to be the best time of his life. He missed the people he fought with, he missed having a cause to devote himself to. He missed the feeling of watching another Tal Shiar outpost blow up knowing it was one less threat to innocent people. Starfleet felt kind of dull in comparison. He missed the lack of formality of his cells compared to Starfleet’s rigid systems. He missed being important, honestly. It was a feeling he’d rather liked.

“Oh no, don’t apologize for that when I do the exact same thing. I suppose you’re right about there being no right way to experience a sense like that. That Cadet might be on to something after all.” He said with a little smile and a laugh. “I’ll send it when I head back to 777. I’m probably heading back sooner than most, I hate to be away for long in case someone gets hurt and then has to be fixed by a regular Engineer who is not specifically trained for it. It’s not fair to anyone involved.” He listened to Vara’l’s response, also not wishing to further outline anything. “Well, at least we’ve been in.. somewhat.. of the same situations. Even if yours wasn’t in the same circumstances as mine. Being essentially the only trained Engineer on a ship was.. an experience, for sure. It was a smaller ship, and it wasn’t for very long, but still.”

"It'd be a better galaxy if the government did more than that." The Romulan had mused then at the others simple response, not pleased about the fact they hadn't. The ban had been reversed and yet, while they'd reversed it, it didn't seem they'd acknowledged what they'd done during it. A observation he declined to voice as the other confirmed that they had in fact been a member of the resistance, something he quietly noted. "I'll admit, I was relatively sheltered from knowledge of the resistance and the houses activities in that regard due to my position and having a young son." The Romulan started then before he continued on and added. "But never mind me, your service record as outlined is quite admirable and you've my respect for it." Vara'l then trailed off for a time before he then continued. "I can understand how Starfleet was quite the change though given the differences between the two organisations." He'd then sipped his drink briefly. "Congratulations on your promotion and." The Romulan's jaw worked a bit then, thoughtful as he took a moment before he continued. "I understand that." When the other indicated he didn't need to apologise, Vara'l smiled appreciatively and nodded. "...Well, that's what I think, I admit." Vara'l's smile then grew then when the other indicated that they'd send it back as they headed back. "I really appreciate that, thank you." He'd responded initially before he'd then added. "And that's a admirable stance, I respect it." Vara'l contented with that, decision made to not expand further, contented to allow Haekis to change the subject of the conversation as they elected to do then. "Indeed." The Romulan nodded then, mind briefly returning to his memories as he considered that much darker period of his past. "That must have been quite the experience though, even if it was a short one."

“Yes, it would. But to me, whatever they say doesn’t mean much, and I want an apology more for the sake of the others than for me. In the end, in my heart I’m more Romulan than Federation anyway. I’ve not even spent half my life there, and that’s honestly laughable considering I’m 15. All the actually important things I’ve done, I did in Romulan space.” He said, referring to his Resistance era. Now, he had settled down more. Became something people didn’t immediately associate with combat. Scars were turned to soft skin, vibrant hair and mostly-fake smiles. But he’d always consider the things he’d done in the fight against the Tal Shiar to be more important than anything he’d ever do for anything else. “Sometimes, the less you know, the safer you and everyone else are. Especially if an innocent kid’s in the mix. And thank you.. in a way, I miss that time. I miss feeling like I had a real purpose. Now, I have to find one myself instead of having it given to me. Which is.. definitely harder.. but doable. Starfleet isn’t worse by any means.. it’s just different. I just need to grow up and learn to deal with change.” He shrugged. Haekis could honestly be a bit philosophical at times for someone who could literally overheat from thinking about too many things at once. He was smart, though the things he said often didn’t show that. He had to be, or he’d have never survived. “I’ve got a duty to the people I studied to help. And honestly.. it’s refreshing to only do one field of engineering and not multiple like I did back then. It was much more stressful, do not leave me in charge of fixing an impulse engine in the heat of badly. It went badly.” He laughed, before sighing. “But yeah.. sooner or later, I’ll have to head out. I want to see a bit more of Mol’Rihan before I go back to 777. I’ve been honored to finally meet you for real, Vara’l.“
